CRETE. Million of years ago Aegeus, the dry land that joined Greece to Asia Minor, sank into the Mediterranean Sea and only the peaks of its mountains were left  above the surface. These events gave birth to Crete, that large island with its high  mountains and rare beauty . Its famed gorges, sheer coats and strange plateaus, which seem like dry lakes and its large, dazzling white and beaches are the remains of this awesome cosmogony which created the island but are also the magnet which attracts visitors all these years later.
